Trinity Graded Examinations in Spoken English (GESE) is recognised as one of the most trusted series of English language examinations for testing speaking and listening skills. Supplementing the extensive resources from Trinity College London with our interactive teaching method, our students are prepared to be confident in communicating in spoken English and mastering the use of grammar.
Trinity Graded Examinations in Spoken English are suitable for students of any age, whatever their level. Learners may be school or college students, working professionals, or those looking to improve their English skills for their own personal development. Whilst there are no firm recommendations as to which grade is suitable for a certain age group, the chart below maps each Trinity grade to common school levels and CEFR / IELTS equivalents.
The examiner guides a conversation to allow the student to demonstrate their competence in using the language appropriate to the grade of the exam. At each level the student carries out a number of realistic speaking and listening tasks that demonstrate their fluency and accuracy in spoken English. The GESE syllabus clearly sets out what students need to do at each level.

Before the examination, the candidate prepares a topic. In the exam this is presented and used as a basis for the interaction.
An initial prompt from the examiner gives rise to an interactive conversation controlled by the candidate.
